SPORTS REPORT
Accra Girls’ Senior High School (AGISS), like many of the Ghana Educational Trust (GET) schools established by the First Republic under the leadership of the late Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Whereas most of the GET schools have not been able to rise beyond where they started and largely remained unknown, the same cannot be said of Accra Girls’. The school has in its small way gained recognition far beyond the widest imagination through sports. The surprising aspect of the school was that the school did not even have sport rounds to train its athletes and always had to parasite on Achimota School facilities. Notwithstanding these setbacks, the then sports department encouraged and tasked every student to give off their maximum and through persistent training, the school was able to raise a team made up of crack athletes for both the track and field events. In this regard, AGISS can lay claim of placing Ghana on the international and national pedestal through athletics and games through the contribution of some illustrious products like Alice Anum (Baby Jet), Hannah Afriyie, Gladys Preko, Juliana Mensah, Frederica Clottey just to mention a few.
The school continues to hold high the enviable position set up by her past glorious athletes till today. Discipline reigns supreme among AGISS students during sporting competitions thus meriting the school the Best-Behaved School Trophy consistently during Inter-Schools athletic competitions.
Today, the school takes great pride in its thriving sports program, which offers a wide range of activities and opportunities for students of all ages and abilities.
