Accra Girls Senior High School Celebrates 64th Anniversary with Speech and Prize-Giving Day
Accra, October 26, 2024 – Accra Girls Senior High School marked its 64th Anniversary with a grand Speech and Prize-Giving Day held at the school’s ceremonial grounds. This year’s theme, “Empowering the Girl Child in STEAM Education to Compete in the Global Space,” highlighted the school’s commitment to equipping young women with skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) to enable them to thrive on a global scale.
The event commenced at 10:00 AM and brought together students, faculty, alumni, parents, and notable guests to celebrate the school’s achievements and honor outstanding students. The ceremony was graced by prominent figures who shared insights and encouragement with the students.
The Special Guest of Honour was the Honorable Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ghana’s Minister for Education, who underscored the importance of STEAM education for girls. In his speech, he praised Accra Girls Senior High School for its consistent excellence and commitment to providing quality education to young women.
The Chairman for the occasion was His Eminence Togbui Francis Albert Seth Nyonyo, who emphasized the need for students to adopt a forward-thinking mindset and pursue innovation. The Guest Speaker, Dr. Gloria Clarissa Dzeha, an alumna from the class of ‘84, inspired the students with her experiences and urged them to make the most of the opportunities provided by the school. She reinforced the value of resilience, hard work, and curiosity as critical components of success in the global arena.
Mr. Robert Annor, another Guest of Honour, applauded the students for their academic and extracurricular accomplishments and encouraged them to continue aiming high and making a positive impact on society. The event was hosted by Mrs. Gifty Andoh, the school’s Headmistress, who expressed pride in the school’s progress and dedication to “Aiming High”—the school’s motto.
The celebration concluded with the presentation of awards to students who had demonstrated exceptional achievements in academics, leadership, and extracurricular activities. The slogan for this year, “Ladies with Vision and Virtue,” resonated throughout the event, serving as a reminder of the values instilled in students at Accra Girls Senior High School.
