In preparation for the upcoming 2024/25 academic year, Accra Girls Senior High School (Accra Girls SHS) is implementing the new Ghana Education Service (GES) National Harmonized Prospectus. This prospectus outlines essential items required for both day and boarding students, with an emphasis on creating a standardized, organized start to the academic year across senior high schools in Ghana.
Standardized Items for Day and Boarding Students
The GES prospectus highlights a list of general items that all students are required to have. For day students, essentials include a mathematical set and scientific calculator, appropriate school-specific sandals, black or white sneakers, and a school bag. Boarding students have a longer list, which includes items such as a hard body suitcase or trunk, a chop box, bedding, toiletries, school-specific footwear, and clothing items like pajamas, khaki trousers, and white shirts. Each item aligns with GES’s efforts to ensure that students are well-prepared and equipped for school life.

Group-Based Cleaning Supplies
In addition to the general items, students are required to purchase cleaning supplies from one of three designated groups. These groups help distribute essential cleaning tasks among students, promoting a clean and healthy environment on campus. Group 1 supplies include hand gloves, liquid soap, and washing powder. Group 2 items include bleach, a dustpan, a long-handle broom, and a scrubbing brush. Group 3 consists of a mop and bucket, a duster, and a short local broom. Parents and students can check which group they belong to through the placement forms on the GES website.
Mandatory Embossing of Personal Items
To enhance security and accountability, all personal items must be embossed or embroidered with the student’s name. This measure will help students easily identify their belongings and reduce the likelihood of items being misplaced or mixed up.
As Accra Girls SHS and other senior high schools adopt this harmonized approach, GES aims to provide a smoother, more organized start to the academic year, ensuring students have what they need to succeed.
